Orchard Park Town Board
Municipal Building
4295 S. Buffalo Street
Orchard Park, New York 14127

Ladies and Gentlemen:

I recently learned that 80% of Americans do not know anyone serving in the Iraq War.  My guess is that percentage is inaccurate.  People probably just aren’t aware of the members of their community who are serving.  I believe it is important that the residents of Orchard Park be made aware of the men and women – their neighbors - serving overseas in this conflict so they can recognize and support them.

I propose a display of photographs of U.S. Iraq War veterans, active duty personnel, and soldiers killed in action from the Orchard Park school district.  I suggest 8” x 10” photographs consistently framed, with brass nameplates be displayed in the Municipal Building.

I recently witnessed a similar display in the Lockport courtroom, and have included photographs for your viewing.

Upon receipt of your approval I intend to request financial assistance from the VFW and American Legion.  Further, I will contact local businesses for photograph printing, framing, nameplates and engraving.  I hope to have the display in place by the middle of May, and a dedication ceremony on Memorial Day.

Thank you for your consideration.  I look forward to your favorable response.

Sincerely,
